Architecture and Environment (ARC60504)
Introduction to the components of environmental conditions and issues, both positive and negative aspects of human intervention and exploring on the relationship of buildings with the natural system. Basic elements of climate and their influences on architecture will be introduced, which aims to create acceptable environmentally conscious and comfortable building designs. There are a total of 2 projects and 1 assessment.

Project showcases
Project I - Creative Essay
In groups of 4, we are to write a creative essay based on a topic of sustainability. Our topic of discussion was Net-zero energy buildings: Raising Malaysia above the waves in which we brings in data and proposed green solutions applicable in the Equatorial climate.
Project II - Daylight Analysis of Chapel in Valleaceron
In groups of 6, we are to perform a detailed analysis of a building to research on its relationship with the site, climate and how natural daylighting is utilized to give the intended spatial experience.
Reflection
At the end of completing this module, I’ve learnt how different green design strategies can be used on different location based on the micro-climate and other existing site contexts. In the final project, I was able to explore on passive design strategies used in an existing building located at the northern hemisphere. I believe that more design strategies are available but can only be learnt through self-research. Throughout the learning process, we’ve learnt on daylighting, ventilation, energy, thermal comfort, acoustics, etc. I believe that such knowledge can be utilized and be considered to explore in future studio projects.
