Project task & overview

"Expressions through Architecture Design Elements and Principles."

This project introduces the language and visual tools of design through architectural design elements and principles, processes and approaches in generating ideas and composition, developing design, creating geometric 2D artworks, then extrude and transform them into 3D form.

It requires the application of elements (line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space), principles (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, unity, and variety etc.), compositions (rule of thirds, golden ratio, datum, centralized, gridded, etc.), transformation techniques (addition, subtraction, interlocking, surface articulation, etc.).

Outcome: Showcase exploration process and understand on the design process and application of architectural design elements, design principles and form transformation techniques

Design intention

Through explorations on shapes with the play of elements and principles and different types of composition with the theme word of Stretching. We applied different form transformation techniques to extrude the 2d compositions into 3d then manipulate cubes based on the concepts to produce the final 3 models named, Stretching.

Reflection

In this project, I've learnt of the basic design elements and principles and also different compositions. The extrusion from 2d into 3d designs and the application of form transformation techniques that could convey the theme of 'Stretching'. As we were to work in a team, I was appointed the leader and I had to be clear on the entire design process and also to actually hear and accept the best idea from all members to produce the best outcome.
